Our bodies need sleep. Absolutely demand it. Most people need around 7-10 hours each night. When we continually fall short of this requirement, our bodies suffer health ramifications. Inadequate sleep negatively impacts the regulation of our hunger and metabolism hormones. Sleep deprived people tend to eat up to 20% more than normal! In addition, poor sleep can cause inflammation and a suppressed immune system. Children who don’t get enough sleep exhibit behavioral and learning problems. Our bodies use this time of rest to perform all sorts of important functions such as detoxification and tissue repair. Sleep is a precious gift to our bodies. Even God rested. Follow His lead and preserve your health. Get some sleep.
It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. Psalm 127:2
I love the biblical references – they give us permisison to do the things that our bodies and God WANT us to do!
Amen, sister!
